The Golden Age is a period in Dutch history that largely coincides with the seventeenth century. The Republic of the Seven United Netherlands went through a heyday in the field of, among other things, the arts. The image on the plate is based on The Goldfinch, a painting by Carel Fabritius (Middenbeemster, baptized February 27, 1622 – Delft, October 12, 1654). Fabritius was a Dutch painter of still lifes and cityscapes and was considered Rembrandt's most talented pupil.
