Berkemeyer Glass Small

Mouth-blown Berkemeyer drinking glass.

Berkemeyer glasses with broad, cilinder-shaped hollow stems and funnel-shaped cups, were made in Germany from the 15th century onwards. Their shape can be traced back to earlier wooden drinking cups that were carved out of thick birch tree branches, or ‘berkemei’. Berkemeyers often feature in 17th-century still life paintings.
